Course Learning Outcomes
This course aims to teach you important standards of learning. It will help you solve math problems, understand and use data, and make good decisions. You will learn how to use these skills in real life to be smart consumers, savers, investors, and money managers. It will also help you become a good citizen, worker, boss, inventor, and part of the global community.
As students complete the course assignments, they will increase their knowledge, improve a 21st-century skill, and develop an attribute.
Knowledge: Business Math
In this course, knowledge refers to the subject matter and content students will learn while completing the readings, practices, quizzes, and assignments.
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to do the following:
Build upon a foundation of basic mathematical procedures by using number relationships and operations.
Recognize patterns, functions, and algebraic equations for a given scenario.
Analyze data to solve business/consumer-related problems.
Demonstrate a developmental approach to the acquisition of computation skills.
Be informed and prepared to be prudent managers of financial resources, enabling them to achieve long- and short-term financial goals and security.
21st-Century Skill: Critical Thinking- Problem Solving
As students complete this course's assignments, they will gain skills in problem-solving. This skill is part of Critical Thinking.
Attribute: Responsibility
This course focuses on developing the attribute of responsibility in the context of Business Math.
Course Materials
All course materials are included within the course, there are no requirements for additional materials.
Assignments
The due dates in the course are only suggestions to help the students pace themselves. You do not need to complete application projects, quizzes, and exams by the due date set in the course.
Content Guides
In each module overview page and on all lesson pages you will find the download for your content guides. You are given the option to download it as a PowerPoint or fillable PDF. Choose whichever file format is easiest for you. You will need to download each module's document at the beginning of the module and work on the document throughout the module's lessons. Content guides will be submitted at various points in the course.
Assignments
There are six assignments in this course. The following provides an overview of each assignment, which modules they are found in, and when they are submitted. Each teacher-scored assignment will also include a rubric, please always read over the rubric to make sure you are meeting the expectations of the assignment.
Basic Math Review Assignment: This assignment is focused on using mathematic skills in real-life application problems. It will focus on each of the skills being taught in modules 1 and 2. You will begin the assignment in module 1, will work on it throughout modules 1 and 2, and then submit the assignment at the end of module 2. This is a teacher-scored assignment.
Making Decisions Assignment: This assignment will have you use your newly learned knowledge to answer scenario-based questions. The Making Decisions Assignment is a multiple choice assignment using content from module 3 and is started and completed at the end of module 3. It is a computer-graded assignment.
Budget Assignment: This assignment will have you work through creating a budget, using the information you have learned through module 5. There is a downloadable template to help you complete the assignment as instructed. You will be introduced to this assignment at the beginning of module 5 and will submit it at the end of module 5. Be sure to follow the steps provided throughout module 5 in order to complete this assignment successfully. This is a teacher-graded assignment.
Loan Assignment: This assignment will have you calculate different aspects of what makes up a loan. This includes things like total interest paid, calculating loan payments, and formulating an amortization schedule. There is a downloadable template to help you complete the assignment as instructed. You will be introduced to this assignment at the beginning of module 10, will work on it while going through the lessons in modules 10 and 11, and will complete it and submit the assignment at the end of module 11. This is a teacher-scored assignment.
Discount Assignment: This assignment will have you calculating discounts and other sales calculations. The Discount Assignment is a multiple-choice assignment using content from modules 12 and 13. You are provided a downloadable template to help you complete the assignment as instructed. The assignment is introduced to you at the beginning of module 12. You will work on the assignment while going through the information in both modules 12 and 13, using the template provided. At the end of module 13, you will be asked to answer multiple-choice questions based on your calculations completed on the template. This is a computer-graded assignment.
Presentation: This is the final assignment for this course. For this assignment, you will be presenting what you have learned about problem solving.
Module Quizzes
You will be responsible for completing 14 module quizzes. These assignments come at the end of each module and are computer graded. They consist entirely of multiple-choice questions and come directly from the lesson material and content guides.
Midcourse Exam
You will complete these exams during the course.
Midcourse Quiz: This computer-graded quiz will cover the material from modules 1-7. The questions on the midcourse quiz will be similar in format to the module quizzes and the questions on the final exam.
Final Exam
You must pass the final exam to earn credit for the course; you may retake it once, for a fee, upon request.
Grading
Your grade in this course will be based on these assignments and exams:
* You must pass the final exam with at least a 60% to earn credit for the course.

Your letter grade is calculated according to these percentages.
