There are no prerequisites for this course.
Course Learning Outcomes
In this course you will learn very practical skills that will come in handy during your everyday life. Not only will you develop basic map-reading skills that will help you get around, but you will also learn about factors that impact the environment of wherever you make your home. You will also learn about the factors that impact the lives of people throughout the world. As you take this course, you will probably notice that when you are reading or listening to the news, you will have a better understanding of world events. By the end of this course you should be able to do the following:
Define basic geography terms.
Identify and assess factors of physical geography.
Identify and assess factors of human geography.
Analyze and create maps and graphs.
Identify and correctly label locations.
Course Materials
All the materials you need are included in the course. You do not have to buy any additional textbooks.
Assignments
This course is divided into 16 modules. Read the description for each type of assignment to learn more and to keep track of your learning experience.
Module Quizzes
At the end of each module, you will submit a computer-graded quiz that will test your knowledge of the content for that module. These are open-book quizzes.
Teacher Graded Assignments
You will need to submit a teacher graded assignment that will evaluate your knowledge of the content included in that module. Take the opportunity to apply what you have learned, and demonstrate your understanding of the lessons by analyzing and making comparisons. A rubric is included to help you review the requirements so that you include all the details in your assignment.
Discussion Boards
There are a total of 2 Discussion Boards in the course to give you the opportunity to communicate your ideas about certain topics, to collaborate, connect with, and learn from others, and provide meaningful and respectful feedback. Remember to follow the discussion board rules. Failure to follow the rules can put you in jeopardy of failing the assignment, and your teacher make take further action to solve the issue. Please remember to be a good digital citizen and use technology to engage in meaningful ways with others.
Country Project
This course includes a country project. You will have the opportunity to choose a country (not your own) to learn more about. These assignments are scattered throughout the course. Details are included in each assignment, where you will have the opportunity to apply what you have learned and apply them specifically to the country you choose. At the end of the course you will record a presentation about the country you choose, submit it to your teacher. This presentation is your part of your final exam! Have fun with this assignment!
Respect Reflection Journal
AttributeIcon.pngThis course focuses on developing the attribute of respect in context of World Geography. You will be required to respond to real-life scenarios related to the geographical concept you are studying in that module. You will submit your reflection as you analyze each scenario.
21st Century Skill: Communication—Deliver Presentations
As you complete the assignments for this course, you will be gaining skills to Deliver Presentations. This skill is part of Communication. If you reach the target competency in this skill, you will earn a 21st Century Skills micro-credential, or digital badge. This micro-credential can be shared on social media, included on your resume, and discussed on college or job applications. Micro-credentials are an effective way to share your skills with prospective employers.
Optional Note-Taking Guides
This course includes optional note-taking guides. You will have the option to use these to direct your notes. These are designed to help you organize your thoughts as you go through this course. These note-taking guides are presented every three or four modules throughout the course. They are also all linked on the Course Resources page.
Exams
You will take a short 30 question final exam. You must pass the exam to pass the course.

Your grade in this course will be based on these assignments and exams:
